A local gem serving up incredible cheese toasties and sweet treats

If you’re a cheese lover in Oxfordshire, The Cheese Shed in Nettlebed is a must-visit. Located at the Nettlebed Creamery, this cosy spot specialises in artisan cheese, freshly baked goods, and top-quality coffee. We had heard some rumours that it serves the best toastie in the county, so we had to find out.

First Impressions

Tucked away in a quiet corner of Nettlebed, The Cheese Shed has a relaxed, welcoming vibe. It may be small, but it has big personality. As you walk in there's a huge lit up sign on the barn wall, a mix of indoor and outdoor seating and the wonderful scent of melting cheese. And there's a bit of outdoor fun for the kids with a large connect 4, a ball run and hay bales for them to climb on too. Instantly you noticed it's full of walkers, cyclists, dogs and families. You can just see how many people love this place. This is the place for anyone who just wants to enjoy a bite to eat at the end of their adventure or head off on the next one.

What we ordered

I ordered their famous cheese toastie and coffee, while the kids enjoyed a cookie and a cruffin (a croissant-muffin hybrid).

The good news is that the rumours are true. The toastie was out of this world - golden, crispy, and packed with rich, gooey cheese, exactly as it should be. Easily one of the best toasties I’ve had! And in case you didn't know it contains 2 of the Nettlebed Creamery's award winning organic cheeses - Highmoor and Witheridge.

Also the coffee was smooth and well-balanced. It was great alongside my toastie. As for the kids’ treats, the cookie was thick and chewy, while the cruffin was flaky, buttery, and generously filled. And who doesn't love a flake. They loved them.

Don't forget to check out the shop in the barn where they sell their award winning cheeses and other local popular items.
